Fabu Fashion Throwback: Skirted.

All the way back in 2019–why does last year seem so long ago??—I attended a three-day religious convention that was all kinds of invigorating and refreshing. I really miss gathering together. Safety first, however. Anyway, planning what to wear to a special event during a Lone Star summer is always interesting. The good thing was that the event location was an indoor conference center so the AC would be blasting and I didn’t have to consider the pools of sweat factor.

Here’s where I’ll tell you that I realized some time ago that I’m a thematic dresser. Hardly a surprise; my life is filled with plot lines and themes, why not what I choose to wear? Perhaps it’s dresses only, or a particular color scheme or pattern, etc. So, while wondering how to combine some new pieces with what was in my closet, I decided that skirts would be my theme.

Skirted.

1. All my skirts came from Ross. By now, you know that Ross is my go-to spot for stylish clothes for awesome low prices.

2. My shoes clearly have a theme, too. See if you can find it.

Last summer seems like ages ago. Being with my friends and spiritual family hasn’t changed though, thanks to Zoom and that virtual life. Nevertheless, I can’t wait to feel the hugs and see the smiles of these people I love so dearly.

Happy Tuesday, y’all.

Spotify Shuffle Series. (1)

I love music more than cake. And that’s pretty huge, being that I once considered changing my license plate to a vanity plate that read cake in French (Gâteau). That said, bienvenue to a new feature on TSP: I shuffle my “Repeat Rewind” playlist that Spotify automatically generates and share the top five songs I’ve been listening to like crazy. There will be many incarnations of this feature because there are a lot of songs. And away we go…

Lovely – Billie Eilish featuring Khalid

So, Billie Eilish: when she came onto the scene, I was pretty indifferent to her. And then I heard Everything I Wanted and wept and realized that her songwriting abilities are out of this world and that her musicality is even beyond that. This song featuring Billie and Khalid just…it breaks you. And their voices soar. No surprise there, Spotify.

Water – Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Salatiel, Black is King soundtrack

Yeah, so being African-born and African-raised means a certain sound is in my bones, I think. Because when the BIK soundtrack came out and I heard some of the songs I was immediately hooked by the music. It reminded me of listening to my parents’ highlife music back home. (And here, too.) Water is beautiful, rhythmic, and super catchy. I plan on posting my faves from that soundtrack, by the way. This may be music week on This Square Peg. Bring your 🎧.

Sparrow – Emeli Sandé

You know how I feel about her. This one is epic. Just epic. I got wind beneath my wings, I think this time I’m gonna make it til morning…

Brown Skin Girl – Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, WizKid

This song would have been everything when I was a little girl. I needed to remember the beauty of my melanin, the wonder of the skin I was in. But you know what? It’s here now and my inner 10 year-old and my outer grown lady applaud the very valid reminders.

Harvest for the World – Paul Carrack

An awesome cover of an amazing Isley Brothers song by one of my favorite voices in pop rock. You’ve heard Paul Carrack as the lead singer of Ace, Squeeze, Mike + the Mechanics. Soulful and evocative.

Hope you can check these out. Happy Music Monday.

Blogtober #31: Blogtobereflections.

The final day of our little Blogtober 2020 that could. Some thoughts:

1. I gained some new followers to This Square Peg during Blogtober. That’s incredibly awesome. Thank you for joining this ‘lil corner of the interwebs.

2. Blogging regularly is doable. Back in the day, I felt like I had to log onto my computer, come up with a lofty idea, etc. Now, I have my phone in hand and literally access this app and start typing. Sometimes with no idea in mind, sometimes just wanting to chat. At the end of the day, I love the authenticity of that, just chatting with you, dear reader. That happened a lot this month.

Chill blogging, no stress

3. Fall really is the best season and October is perfect for Blogtober. My mind electrifies during this time of year. I found myself looking forward to posting and blogging and meeting the challenge.

Thanks for your support, for reading, for commenting, for liking, for following.

Happy Autumn! 🍁🍁🍁🍁

Blogtober #29: A Few Things…

…that I know to be true.

1. The last few minutes of Law and Order are the most explosive.

2. I’ll fall in love someday…even though hope is sitting in the corner, exhausted, bored, and yawning…

3. You’ll always get the Oxford comma from me. Always, always, and always.

4. I’ll end up living in a cottage in a quaint village in Britain. Claiming it.

5. This cottage will require a typewriter. Because: cottage.

6. Vintage travel ads will always bring a smile to my face. (I have a whole board dedicated to said ads on my Pinterest page. Take a gander; link is at the top of the page.)

Bon Thursday. Friday awaits us…

Blogtober #28: Blue Light Special.

(This blog post contains Amazon Affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I may earn a small commission for purchases made through these links.)

So, if you’ve been working from home for several months like me, you’ve also been staring at a computer screen for several months. But pandemic, so we’re also staring at Zoom screens, FaceTime screens, and basically living a virtual screen life with our eyes. I’m already a squinter when it comes to screens (the doctor maintains I don’t need prescription glasses though 🤔), so you can imagine the tension I’ve been been feeling. Enter a good friend and her suggestion that I head to Amazon to purchase Blue Light blocking glasses to help with the eye strain.

🤓

The MeetSun Blue Light Blocking Glasses are awesome. The price was fantastic and I received two pairs for the price of one. As a fan of fashion glasses anyway, it’s not surprising that I was excited to find a pair that were stylish and would help my eyes out at the same time. Check them out.

Happy Wednesday.

Blogtober #26: The Heat is On.

That’s right, folks. The high in Texas today was in the mid-40s. Which means that yours truly turned on her heater. Hilarious. Anyway, it feels very autumnal around here and I love it. Note the temps for the rest of the week below.

Note the sad face for the upcoming rainy days. Not into rainy days.

What’s the weather where you are?
